In the News: The Joy of Cryptids

Today, I stumbled across the following:

Chekkit out! Am I fugly or what?

Apparently this critter, dubbed the “Montauk Monster” washed up on a beach in Montauk, NY.

What exactly the thing is happens to be a matter of some debate on the ever-informed and ever-rational internet. Huzzah for the slightly-less-than-infinite number of monkeys banging away on their keyboards. I leave it up to my ever-erudite readers to determine just what sort of whatsit it is that we are looking at. Your guesses can’t be farther off base than some others I’ve seen…

Anyhow, in that vein, I went digging around a little bit and found a somewhat amusing little thing about some other cryptids. Naturally, my favorite’s gotta be GoatBoy.

What, did you expect Mothman?

Internet Photos of cryptids will have to just become internet videos of cryptids, because photoshop has become so advanced you can’t trust any weird shit you see in a photograph anymore.

Although, in deference to the maker of this photo– DAMN! Good skills, man! Well done getting the light and shadow just right, not to mention the texture of the skin, etc.

    Totally agreed.

Now, according to the story, the thing was photographed by two different folks, and one of them had multiple pics… plus was willing to give the film originals to the paper though the person (had not yet done so when the piece hit the news though) that shot this particular (one) picture wasn’t willing to.

    So that’s what they’re claiming.

When the second party gives up those multiple pics and film originals (FILM? NOT digital? wow…) then I’ll believe it. Not before then.

  4. uhlrik Says:

    Most definitely.

I intentionally avoided your other commentors, but I vote shell-less turtle. That cat thing was also cool; I would totally pet that cat, just like that guy ate the dear with the extra limbs.

    I’d pet it. totally. 🙂
